Foil 72 Current HPF can do II.....

From GCF Talk U - Lewis/NASA 3/9/92 Mardi Gras Conference on Concurrent Computing in Physical Sciences -- February 18, 1993. by Geoffrey C. Fox

1 Embarrassingly Parallel Problems Basic entities can be very complicated but they can be calculated independently. Use INDEPENDENT command in HPF
2 Search databases for given text ( ELIXIR for DECmpp ) (can be SIMD)
3 Analyse separately 107 events recorded from Synchrotron (SSC) collisions. ( definitely MIMD "farm" )
4 Calculate matrix elements for (chemistry) Hamiltonian (may need MIMD)
  • MOPAC, GAUSSIAN, Reaction scattering rate work within C3P at Caltech is
    • "calculate matrix elements"
    • "Multiply/Solve/Find eigenvalues of matrix
5 Quantum Monte Carlo
  • Independent "walkers"
  • Parallel Histogram (database) storage
