Advantages
  • Very portable and scalable to SIMD and MIMD
  • Should be able to eventually handle ~all synchronous and loosely synchronous problems including ones that only run well on MIMD
  • Industry Standard will be adopted
    • "High Performance Fortran"
    • hope for consensus ~December 1992
    • include CMFortran, FortranD .....
Disadvantages
  • Need to wait for good compiler
  • Not all problems can be expressed in it
