Foil 37 Communication Protocol Integration

From General NPAC Foils-98A starting January 98 (PowerPoint) Computational Aerosciences in the 21st Century Hampton VA -- April 23 98. by Geoffrey C. Fox

1 Need Flexibility of HTTP/RMI/COM/CORBA with performance of systems like MPI
2 Can use compiler or runtime libraries to map in application (tier 3) which gives greatest performance
3 More flexible is to map at server (tier 2) when you can access functionality of all mapped protocols
4 NPAC has built JWORB which is a Java server which supports both the Web and CORBA(distributed object) protocols
  • JWORB supports RTI and so allow one to build Web Tools for FMS/IMT DoD (DMSO) communities (RTI is event driven simulation equivalent of MPI)
  • WebFlow will become an HLA Programming Environment
  • JWORB could support MPI and so link HPCC and DMSO
5 Commercial systems can bridge COM and CORBA
