Parallel Database Server Facility
  • Currently running of 4 wide nodes of the SP2 Power Server, 1GB RAM, 70 GB of disk space
  • Runs Oracle relational DBMS. Supports both parallel server and parallel data query capability
  • 4 instances of the server run against the same database
  • Network access upgrade to the parallel server pending: switched Ethernet to FDDI backbone.
Relational-Object-Oriented Database
  • Illustra DBMS running on the SGI Onyx
    • provides support for multimedia data types
    • very high performance (low overhead) engine
    • directly supports GIS technology
