Proposed Agenda, IE/IOE Teleconference Monday, Oct 25 1999 Final Agenda will be sent out Monday at noon. Please contact me (Marlon.Pierce@wpafb.af.mil) or post to the mailing list if you have any questions, comments, or additions. 1. A quick recap of last week and overview of this week. 2. Identification of commonly desired features that can be delivered in one year. As has been noted by several people, IOE and IE are mostly two different projects that can eventually be integrated. What I'd like to see: a) We should agree to start producing a set of standards in XML that will apply to all centers. This can be used to represent structured data at all sites and translate between data structures at different locations. XML standards can also be coupled with XSL for customized user interfaces. b) ARL should agree to participate in IE, provided additional funding is obtained. c) ASC, NAVO, and Maui should agree to participate in IOE, again if we can obtain funding. d) NPAC and NCSA continue to build IOE. e) NACSE continues to build interfaces for legacy data sets, but for ASC, ARL, and Maui as well as NAVO. f) Full integration of everything into a portal should be deferred to a later period (second year). 3. Identification of target users. Example: In the last meeting we identified allocation and utilization data as interesting to a number of different users (S/AAA’s, CTA’s, etc). The interface(s) have to be built with them in mind. We shold come up with a realistic list of users to build for. 4. Listing of hardware and software requirements. NAVO expressed concern that this could potentially swamp their system. We need to know which centers will need more powerful webservers. We also need to know which sites need what software (Oracle software, for example). 5. Estimation of costs. How much to leverage currently funded projects of other centers into this effort? How much for maintenance of system? How much for hardware and software? 6. Wrap up. We should have all the information to construct the presentation by the end of the session. Any loose ends will be tied up off line. The next meeting (if necessary) will be to go over presentation slides. FINAL NOTE: Geoffrey Fox brought the following web site to my attention: http://www.npaci.edu/DICE/SRB/index.html This could potentially be used by IE. I have not had time yet to go through it. One important concern is if this can combined with MSRC security requirements.
