Dissertation Topic / Title: My dissertation topic will be, roughly saying, efficient user interface for human and computer. I am researching on two streams right now. One is about rehab engineering (mainly ,IEEE transactions on rehabilitation engineering). It is because even though I don't mean to work on the hard ware engineering part for myself, I would need to know metrics to measure how efficient a system is and what kind of hardware appliances are available out there. The other which is my main interest, is to survey current user interfaces both commercial and academic , to gather data on how people get information from outside world, and to find out efficient ways to build a system up on the web such as using VRML 2.0 and JAVA instead of using JAVA solely. Then, I can build testbed and experiment on it to get real data. My first goal of this dissertation is for disabled people but this shouldn't be confined to certain group of
Career Goals: a consultant specializing in compter human interface industry or government. I also have a hope to work for rehab facilities to provide them required compter software in order to have better environment to live, enjoy their lives, and learn effectively ; it is for both mentally retarded people and physically disabled people who can't access conventional user interface such as keyboard, or mouse. About work place, it will depend on job search after I get degree.
(Please specify: Type of position sought eg computer applications area or computer development area; type of environment sought eg academia, research lab, industry and location eg USA, home country or other country)
Areas of your specialization: I have been working on web programming such as JAVA, HTML, Perl, WOW, etc. Those are essential because they provide new way of user interface to public. I also have experiences with parallel processing and computational science using parallel languages (C*, HPF) and systems(MPI, PVM).I believe this knowledge will be a great help in handling data to be analized. Neural Network, Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science courses which I took so far will provide me profound base to understand psycological aspects of human computer interface and to fine system. I have an ability to build a system and correctly analize it like they do in Cybernetics(IEEE System, Man, and Cybernetics) which I could get through Discrete Event System and probability classes.
