NURTEL (http://nurtel.com) Service Review

Nurtel is a Long Distance retailer and offers low rates to most overseas
and domestic telephone call destinations from North America. The initial
signup is perhaps little bit cumbersome as Nurtel does not accept credit
card payments. However, this little hassle of paying with cheque by mail
is worth it, as one is relieved of busy 800 as well as overseas lines.

The service is much more user friendly compared to other calling cards.
You can make multiple calls with a single 1-800 call connections. And
this is a BIIIGGGGGG luxury when compared other cards in the market.
Most of the readers must be knowing why I am calling it luxury in light
of their experience over the last eid. On top of this, Nurtel does not
charge any connection charges which gets charged even for improperly
connected calls and sometimes even for calls that did not go through at
all. For Pakistan, there is one 69 cents per minute rate inclusive of
all charges and perhaps taxes also. There are even cheaper rates being
offered for those who want to switch their long distance provider or
want to have 1-800 numbers.

I found Nurtel lines to be free of any congestion, clear and with the
normal breaks experienced due to compression at ITMCs. Hence you get the
speaking time for which you pay. Many carriers compress calls in upto
1:4 ratio thus introducing prolonged silence in international calls.
Hence, a caller effectively gets only 15-20 seconds (in a minute) of
conversation time while he pays for whole minute. This includes talking
time wasted in Hello Hello call renegotiation between two parties due to
these breaks. Nurtel's carrier seems to have a much lesser compression
ratio (most probably 1:2) and hence a clear full minute talk time. I
made the calls at peak hours for traffic to Pakistan and still the call
was uninterrupted and without any breaks.

In short, I would strongly recommend PNS readers to switch to Nurtel for
an excellent service at predictable cheaper rates.
