About The Virtual Campus Tour Project

This project is being done as part of a High School Mentorship Program at Syracuse University. Nate Heilmann of Corcoran High School and Kiana Williams of Nottingham High School are working on this project under the mentorship of Paul Coddington of the Northeast Parallel Architectures Center at Syracuse University.

Issue #2 of GNN Magazine features an article with the same idea, entitled Cruising the Web for College Information.

The list of universities and information about them was obtained from:

• The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) developed by the National Center for Education Statistics of the U.S. Department of Education.

You would think that somewhere on the net there would be a list of university Internet addresses, but we couldn't find one, so we made our own. Our list was created using:

• The "whois" command on the INTERNIC domain listing.
• The FAQ on college email addresses from the soc.people newsgroup.
• Checking an outdated list prepared by the University or Texas.

There are a few lists of university WWW servers:

• Mike Conlon's List of American Universities on the World Wide Web is the most thorough.
• There is also a world-wide list of universities.

Information on scholarships and grants was obtained from:

• The Minority On-Line Information Service (MOLIS)
• Rice University list of Scholarships and Grants
