Sponsor expectations

	Assistance in developing their Web site, hosting it on a reliable
high-performance computer with high speed Internet access, consulting on
Web technologies and services such as programming for the Web and database
access, and help in developing some Web programs.

Specific objectives

        Implement a fast Web site, with Web services such as CGI programs
for handling forms, on-line commerce, streamed digital audio, database access
using the Web, and the generation of statistics on accesses to Web pages. 

Relevance to the Center's target industry

	Web technologies are developing in incredibly quickly, and are 
having the greatest impact of any area of computing. High-end Web services
require high-performance computers and networks and Web software expertise.
	
Plan of approach

        Empire Web have been given access to the Infomall Web server at NPAC,
which hosts Web services for Infomall partners. They develop Web pages and 
services for themselves and their customers. NPAC provides consultation and 
helps implement high-end Web technologies such as CGI programs, streamed 
digital audio, and database access.

Purpose of any planned travel

	Empire Web employees and clients occasionally visit Syracuse to
discuss projects and the latest Web technologies.

Industry involvement

        Empire Web creates Web pages for a number of clients, mostly 
small businesses within New York State, particularly the Hudson Valley and 
New York City.

Technical innovation

        NPAC is helping Empire Web to implement state-of-the-art Web 
technologies such as Web database interfaces, streamed audio, and CGI
programs into their Web sites.

Steps to commercialization

        Empire Web is already providing a commercial service.

Progress to date

	Empire Web now has a rapidly growing Web site with a number of 
customers, and are effectively using high-end technologies such as streamed
audio, and CGI programs that allow on-line shopping.

Impact to date

        Empire Web is a small company, and originally their expertise lay
in multimedia, not in the Internet and World Wide Web. NPAC has helped
Empire Web to get up to speed with the latest Web technologies, and provided
them with access to high-speed computers and networks that they could never
have bought themselves as a small start-up company.

        With the help of NPAC expertise, computers and neworks, Empire Web 
have created state-of-the-art Web sites for a number of New York State 
companies. Their Web site also provides information about New York State, 
including a corporate relocator for the Hudson Valley, which provides on-line
information to companies looking to relocate in this area.
