From gcf@npac.syr.edu Mon Apr 28 15:38:12 1997 Date: Sun, 27 Apr 1997 20:09:23 -0400 From: Geoffrey Fox To: paulc@boss.npac.syr.edu Subject: Some Questions re Miloje's Legacy I studied quite a bit of Miloje's code and in general it seems high quality -- albeit spending a lot of time in "object-oriented" methods which are sort of trivial but are of course technically correct I suggest a)We need a roadmap of what is actually there -- both in terms of "systems" eg PIMCS and Markov (basic Metropolis) and Calibration and Web Version ... and in terms of non trivial differences sequential versus parallel (MPI) what modules are actually different between PIMCS and Basic Metropolis european.c replaces modmarkov.c -- are other routines same? and in terms of capabilities test data / test drivers b)Then we should take key routines and document public methods and data structures (good project for Ou) c)I had many more detailed questions. I note for instance that Tech Note 4 says that Tech Note 3 describes Metropolis MC but actually Tech Note 3 desribes VAR/VARCH Time series Do we have correct list of documents -- this should be in roadmap! Other questions can wait a bit d) Peter Davies writes: Geoffrey, We have rescheduled the meeting to May 8. There seems to be a continuing ambiguity and lack of agreement on what is going on. The May meeting gives us all a chance to nail things down once and for all. Given the importance this meeting has, I must ask an obvious question: Does Paul have complete authority to represent and commit Syracuse, NPAC and InfoMall? Do we at Askari need to have any concern that there has to be a second reality check with you or anyone else (other than legal, etc.)? >From Askari's point of view, I am prepared to enter into binding commitments at the meeting. Cheers, Peter We two need to talk in depth as I see this whole stuff as far more valuable than $25K and I'm worried they think they will pick up everything for this price! We must somehow clarify the cosmic expectations -- note Peter says "Legal". Nobody has mentioned a license yet! I will be in all next week Please tell me your schedule etc. This is potentially very promising but we must not make a mistake!
