We're excited about sponsoring and building the first Habitat for Humanity home as part of a long-term vision for decent housing for everyone who lives and works in this growing community.
Randy Houston, of the newly-formed Habitat for Humanity Collierville Chapter, accepted the donation of the home, which will be build by Carrier Corporation employees during a building blitz of five homes March 14 through April 19.
"Habit for Humanity is pleased to partner with Carrier Corporation in providing decent, affordable housing for families who otherwise would never be able to afford a home of their own," says Houston. "Carrier has been a leader in Collierville for a long time, and their Habitat for Humanity sponsorship is just another way the company shows that it cares about and supports this community."
Many of Carrier's 1,600 Collierville employees will build the first 1,100 square-foot home near the corner of Sycamore Road and South Street in Collierville for a Memphis family of five. All five homes in the building blitz will feature a Carrier heating and cooling system.
Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian ministry that builds homes for limited income families, with over 1,300 affiliates in the United States and is represented in 51 countries around the world. The organization's Collierville Chapter was formed in 1995 in a community town meeting with individuals dedicated to providing decent, affordable housing for all God's people in need.
Carrier Corporation is the world's largest manufacturer of heating and air conditioning systems and equipment. Carrier's Collierville manufacturing plant employs 1,600. It is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, provider of a broad range of high-technology products and support services to the aerospace, building systems and automotive industries.
