The glossary is designed to pop up a new window. This glossary window contains an extensive list of words used in high performance computing. It is also self referencing. Words linked to the glossary are in bold italics, e.g. data parallel.
You can use the glossary in multiple ways:
1) from within the text of a CTC document - click on words that are bold italicized and the glossary window will open to that location.
2) from within the glossary itself - as you read a definition, you will note there are other bold italicized words. Clicking on these will locate you at another part of the glossary which contains the definition.
WORDS OF CAUTION:
As of now, the glossary will fall to the background on some machines. When you invoke the glossary multiple times, it does reload the glossary properly but it does NOT bring the window to the forefront. Be sure you locate the glossary off your netscape window so you can easily bring it up again.
Netscape 3.0 recommends that you set your disk cache larger than your memory cache. These options are located under 'Options" and then 'Network Preferences". These recommendations must be followed if CTC's glossary is to work correctly for you.
If your disk cache is set to zero, or in some cases, SMALLER than your memory cache, the glossary will only work properly the first time it is invoked. After that, clicking on an italicized term will send you to the top of the glossary rather than to the term itself. If you experience this problem, please verify your cache settings. If you continue to have problems, send e-mail to your designated consulting address (for VW participants: vw-consult@tc.cornell.edu and for all others consult@tc.cornell.edu).
