Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirapalli Home Page
Interested in maintaining this page / Looking for alumni entries?
I have graduated, and am looking for someone to take over the manintenance of
this page. Please email me if you are interested - I will mail you all the
html files, pictures etc., from which point you can start off. If you are
looking for updates which you sent me mail about, I will not be able to get
around to those right now because of pathetic telnet links. They will
be done
in due course.

News
The Institution
Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirapalli (RECT), established in 1964, is now
one of India's premier institutions for education in engineering. It offers
undergraduate and graduate programs in several fields :
- Computer science and engineering
- Electronics and communication engineering
- Electrical and electronics engineering
- Civil engineering
- Chemical engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Metallurgical engineering
- Production engineering
- Architecture
RECT also offers the MBA (Master of Business Administration) and MCA
(Master of Computer Applications) degrees, and the M.Sc. degree in Applied
Chemistry, Applied Electronics and Operations Research.
Location
The RECT campus is located 17km (10mi) from Tiruchirapalli (or Trichy, as it is
otherwise called) on the Thanjavur road. See a
map of Tamil Nadu for details or visit the
Tamil Nadu Home Page
. Two of the most prominent landmarks are
Rockfort and the
Srirangam temple.
Campus Life - The lighter side
Entrance
Welcome to RECT! If you're looking for a paradise on earth, rule RECT out
from the possibilities. Its so hot in summer, it burns. The campus is large
(960 acres?) and it has about 10 trees. Ok, ok. 13 trees. Young plants rarely
survive the combination of searing heat and the omnipresent hungry cows and
bulls on campus (You read that right - cows and bulls on campus!). How they
got there, no one knows. No one seems to mind, though - except the students.
But then who cares about them anyway?
Library
This was the most popular spot on campus - for lover boys and girls, that is.
And the few quizzing cats that we had.
The Octagon
Talk about refuge from the heat. The coolest building on campus - in more ways
than one. The pride of RECT as far as facilities go.
Temple
I take back my earlier statement about the library being the most popular spot
for lover boys to meet their girls: the temple is. With all this going on, it
is rather difficult to actually pray in the temple. (Well, that's an
exaggeration, but you get the point!)
Canteen
RECT has several "eateries" on campus apart from the messes. Small wonder
though, that these eateries suck, too - but only in retrospect!! While we
were at RECT, the food here was a welcome break from food at the mess. And
the only problem was that everyone took too many "breaks from mess food" and
soon were also bored of the food everywhere else on campus.
