NYSERNet (New York State Education and Research Network) is a high speed data network connecting New York state to the global community of computing networks and resources known as the Internet. A not-for-profit corporation, NYSERNet has provided Internet connectivity since 1986. NYSERNet provides an extensive list of Internet solutions and a full range of Internet services. A diverse array of courses for new and experienced users are offered via the NYSERNet Internet Training and Education Center (NITEC).
We expect a growing interaction between NYSERNet and InfoMall with joint projects. In particular, there are two Education proposals where NYSERNet provides basic Internet connectivity and support and InfoMall supplies advanced technologies and applications. NYSERNet's new SPRINT based Internet access is used by NPAC through the Syracuse University NYSERNet supplied connection. We are working with the University to improve NPAC's connectivity both internally and externally. Improved outside access to our World Wide Web servers will be critical as advanced Web applications which need high performance network links are developed. Web applications include video-on-demand as well as server enhancements that are being built for education and collaboration.
Another interesting area of NYSERNet activities in InfoMall is training and education. We can expect a natural collaboration with other InfoMall members providing training on value-added Internet services and NYSERNet providing basic Internet training and services.
