We now illustrate the different machine, problem, and software issues
with five case studies. These are each broad application areas where
there is no one approach. Rather, several very distinct application
subclasses are present in each case for which different programming
paradigms and machine architectures are appropriate. We will move
from compute dominated to communication/data intensive cases.
