Foil 100 Quantum ChromoDynamics (QCD) Special Purpose Machines

From Master Foilset for HPC Achitecture Overview CPS615 Introduction to Computational Science -- Fall Semester 1998. by Geoffrey C. Fox

Special Purpose Physics Machines for Foil 100
1 Here the case for special purpose machines is less compelling than for GRAPE as QCD is "just" regular (easy to parallelize; lowish communication) and extremely floating point intensive.
2 We illustrate with two machines which are classic MIMD distributed memory architecture with optimized nodes/communication networks
3 BNL/Columbia QCDSP 400 Megaflops
4 Univ. of CP-PACS (general physics) 600 Megaflops
