Interface java.awt.swing.table.TableModel
- public interface TableModel
The TableModel interface specifies the interface for objects
that provides data for cells in a JTable.
It is important to note the methods, getColumnIdentifier(), getColumnClass(),
getColumnName(), and getColumnCount() are only used in JTable's
createDefaultColumnsFromModel() method to create the set of default
TableColumns from information provided for in this model. If your model's
column structure changes dynamically and you would like the JTable to
reflect those changes, you can either call the createDefaultColumnsFromModel()
directly to force the table to rebuild the columns. Or you can set the
autoCreateColumnsFromModel flag to true, and then send the tableChanged()
notification with the TableModelEvent indicating the entire table has
changed. ie. new TableModelEvent(this, -1). The columns will be rebuild
when it receives that tableChanged() call.

- JTable, AbstractTableModel, DefaultTableModel
addTableModelListener(TableModelListener)
- Add a listener to the list that's notified each time a change
to the data model occurs.
getColumnClass(int)
- Returns the lowest common denominator Class in the column.
getColumnCount()
- Returns the number of columns managed by the data source object.
getColumnIdentifier(int)
- Returns the unique column identifier object for column at
columnIndex managed by this data source object.
getColumnIndex(Object)
- Returns the index of the column with an identifier matching the
parameter columnIdentifier using the equals() method
for comparison.
getColumnName(int)
- Returns the name of the column at columnIndex.
getRowCount()
- Returns the number of records managed by the data source object.
getValueAt(int, int)
- Returns an attribute value for the cell at columnIndex
and rowIndex.
isCellEditable(int, int)
- Returns true if the cell at rowIndex and columnIndex
is editable.
removeTableModelListener(TableModelListener)
- Remove a listener from the list that's notified each time a
change to the data model occurs.
setValueAt(Object, int, int)
- Sets an attribute value for the record in the cell at
columnIndex and rowIndex.
getRowCount
public abstract int getRowCount()
- Returns the number of records managed by the data source object. A
JTable uses this method to determine how many rows it
should create and display. This method should be quick, as it
is call by JTable quite frequently.
- Returns:
- the number or rows in the model
- See Also:
- getColumnCount
getColumnCount
public abstract int getColumnCount()
- Returns the number of columns managed by the data source object. A
JTable uses this method to determine how many columns it
should create and display on initialization.
- Returns:
- the number or columns in the model
- See Also:
- getRowCount
getColumnName
public abstract String getColumnName(int columnIndex)
- Returns the name of the column at columnIndex. This is used
to initialize the table's column header name. Note, this name does
not need to be unique. Two columns on a table can have the same name.
- Parameters:
- columnIndex - the index of column
- Returns:
- the name of the column
getColumnIdentifier
public abstract Object getColumnIdentifier(int columnIndex)
- Returns the unique column identifier object for column at
columnIndex managed by this data source object.
- Parameters:
- columnIndex - the index of column
- Returns:
- the unique identifier of the column
getColumnIndex
public abstract int getColumnIndex(Object columnIdentifier)
- Returns the index of the column with an identifier matching the
parameter columnIdentifier using the equals() method
for comparison.
- Parameters:
- columnIdentifier - the unique idenitifier of the column
- Returns:
- the index of the column with the matching unique identifier
getColumnClass
public abstract Class getColumnClass(int columnIndex)
- Returns the lowest common denominator Class in the column. This is used
by the table to set up a default renderer and editor for the column.
- Returns:
- the common ancestor class of the object values in the model.
isCellEditable
public abstract boolean isCellEditable(int rowIndex,
int columnIndex)
- Returns true if the cell at rowIndex and columnIndex
is editable. Otherwise, setValueAt() on the cell will not change
the value of that cell.
- Parameters:
- rowIndex - the row whose value is to be looked up
- columnIndex - the column whose value is to be looked up
- Returns:
- true if the cell is editable.
- See Also:
- setValueAt
getValueAt
public abstract Object getValueAt(int rowIndex,
int columnIndex)
- Returns an attribute value for the cell at columnIndex
and rowIndex.
- Parameters:
- rowIndex - the row whose value is to be looked up
- columnIndex - the column whose value is to be looked up
- Returns:
- the value Object at the specified cell
setValueAt
public abstract void setValueAt(Object aValue,
int rowIndex,
int columnIndex)
- Sets an attribute value for the record in the cell at
columnIndex and rowIndex. aValue is
the new value.
- Parameters:
- aValue - the new value
- rowIndex - the row whose value is to be changed
- columnIndex - the column whose value is to be changed
- See Also:
- getValueAt, isCellEditable
addTableModelListener
public abstract void addTableModelListener(TableModelListener l)
- Add a listener to the list that's notified each time a change
to the data model occurs.
- Parameters:
- l - the TableModelListener
removeTableModelListener
public abstract void removeTableModelListener(TableModelListener l)
- Remove a listener from the list that's notified each time a
change to the data model occurs.
- Parameters:
- l - the TableModelListener
