You have started TANGO Collaboratory.
If you experience problems, please, read the troubleshooting
guide
The main TANGO applet is quite large. If your Internet
connection is slow, it may take a while to get the applet downloaded. Next
time you start TANGO, the process will be faster since
part of the applet will be cached by your browser. Typical download times:
Machine: a 120 MHz Pentium PC under Windows NT 4.0
Connection |
First load |
Subsequent loads |
14.4 kpbs modem |
~4-5 min |
~1 min |
28.8 kpbs modem |
2 min 40 sec |
~30 sec |
64 kpbs ISDN line |
1 min 10 sec |
12 sec |
128 kpbs ISDN line |
48 sec |
10 sec |
These times have been measured under ideal conditions, on private dialups
directly connected to NPAC high-performance network. Your numbers may vary.
Loading times over Internet are completely unpredictable. FYI, TANGO
zip file is ~330KB at this time.
For faster connections, TANGO startup time is determined by the performance
of Java byte code checker. On some UNIX machines this process is really
slow. You may have to wait 20-30 seconds for TANGO applet to start even
if you have an OC3 line to the server.
Please, note:
-
We have observed users being confused by TANGO interface. The interface
is admittedly a little alien. Please, read the provided Help. And, when
trying to start applications, click the application icon, not the label!
If you experience problems, please, start Java console from
your Netscape browser. You will be able to follow the download and
connection process. Click

Thank you for using TANGO!
