Description
The GPFS scratch space, /gpfs/scratch, will be rebuilt during January 3rd's maintenance day. *ALL DATA* on the scratch filesystem will be lost. This is to address performance problems and to ensure free capacity for future filesystem rebuilds the next two maintenance days.
Resolution
The GPFS scratch filesystem has been rebuilt with considerable performance increases:
almost 7.5x better write performance: 550 MB/s as opposed to the 75 MB/s before
almost 4x better read performance: 900 MB/s as opposed to the 230 MB/s before
During the month of January, we will be syncing over the home, software, and images GPFS filesystems to scratch so that they can be rebuilt during the February maintenance so performance may be impacted during the night from midnight to 6am.
