Announcing FutureGrid Project Challenge

FutureGrid announces its first contest -- the FutureGrid Project Challenge.  The FPC is open to both students and non-students and provides an opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge by utilizing FutureGrid computing resources in the execution of applications.

Eight awards are envisioned, four for students and four for non-students, to be based on criteria that include the following:
  • Interoperability
  • Scalability
  • Contribution to Education
  • Research (innovation, quality of papers, new software, algorithms, insightful performance measurements, etc.)
The award will be based on FutureGrid work and its analysis or on ideas and software developed with major use of FutureGrid.

First place award for students is a trip to SC12 (up to a $1,000), where a demonstration will be provided.  All other awards are $200 cash.  We encourage minority students to enter the Challenge, as one of the student awards is reserved for a "top minority" project.

All applicants must submit their intent to participate in the FPC as a formal project request or already have a project whose results can be submitted for consideration.  To submit a project request, login to the FutureGrid Portal (http://archive.futuregrid.org) and click the "Create a New Project" option under the "Projects" main menu item.  The original May 15th deadline for submitting the FPC project requests has been extended.   NEW DEADLINE: June 1, 2012.

Awards will be announced on June 15, 2012.  Students in class projects should submit an individual project request if their work is to be considered for award.

The projects will be evaluated based on their results submitted as a FutureGrid project result.
