Abstract


This project will allow TACC personnel to use the OpenStack installation on Alamo to become familiar with OpenStack in particular and cloud computing in general. TACC staff will mainly be using OpenStack individually, but we also expect to provide training sessions to small groups of staff over the next few months.

Intellectual Merit

TACC staff will increase their knowledge about cloud computing and OpenStack.

Broader Impacts

TACC collaborates with and provides services to computational scientists in a broad range of scientific domains. If TACC staff learn more about cloud computing, they will have more tools to address the needs of computational scientists.

Hardware System
  • alamo (Dell optiplex at TACC)
 
Use of FutureGrid

We will be working with OpenStack on Alamo.

Scale of Use

A few virtual machines at a time per user for a few hours at a time.
