Cloud Computing Research at UC Riverside

Abstract

Our research group at UC Riverside is exploring several issues related to cloud computing: -- how should cloud services be architected?, -- how to enable applications to maximize availability, performance, and profit in use of cloud computing services? -- how to ease the development and deployment of applications targeted for the cloud? We plan to use FutureGrid for experimentation in all of these areas.

Intellectual Merit

Same as mentioned in the abstract above.

Broader Impact

Our research will develop insights and tools that will be of use for cloud computing service providers, for developers of applications to be deployed on the cloud, and for those who deploy these applications on the cloud.

We will incorporate the basics of our research into the undergraduate and graduate curriculum at UC Riverside and thus train the next generation of cloud application developers.

Use of FutureGrid

As mentioned in the abstract above, we will be using FutureGrid to run experiments to evaluate various techniques and tools we develop to aid application deployments in the cloud.

Scale Of Use

We will run experiments with tens of VMs or bare metal machines.
